Lukaku joins Chelsea
Romelu Lukaku would make his return to Chelsea over the summing, signing from Inter Milan.
The Belgian enjoyed a solid debut, netting against an Arsenal side whose defence were all over the place at the time.
Lukaku then did not find the net vs Liverpool but would score a brace vs Aston Villa in his following league game, though it is worth noting that no.1 shot-stopper Emiliano Martinez was not in between the sticks for Dean Smith’s team.
Elsewhere, Lukaku has scored one goal vs Zenit in the Champions League but blanked in Chelsea’s loss to Juventus and in his last four Premier League outings.
The Belgian’s latest outing, meanwhile, saw him pick up an injury vs Malmo in the Champions League.
Inter chief in Lukaku dig?
Now, in a recent interview, Inter Milan CEO Giuseppe Marotta has been discussing Lukaku and did seem to aim a few digs at the now Chelsea striker.
When Lukaku left Inter for Chelsea, the Italian outfit would sign Edin Dzeko. Though a solid player, Dzeko is now 35 and arguably in the twilight of his career.
Marotta, though, claimed that, on the pitch, there is not much difference between Lukaku and Dzeko:
“Lukaku was sold for €115m and we bought Dzeko for free. On the pitch, there isn’t much difference.”
The Inter chief then continued to appear to aim digs at Lukaku, stating that the striker left Inter to double his salary:
“Lukaku left to double his salary, in Italy these figures can’t exist.
“Today, we can’t make important investments, I wouldn’t be allowed to sign Lukaku for €75m. We need reduced and specific investments.”
