Word stemming from the Spanish media on Thursday has pointed towards a potentially telling development in the future of Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele.
Blaugrana attacker eyed
Speculation surrounding wide-man Dembele has of course picked up in a major way over recent days.
This comes amid rumoured interest in the French international’s services on the part of newly-minted Premier League outfit Newcastle United.
The Magpies have recently come in for a game-changing funds boost, after long-time owner Mike Ashley finally agreed to sell his majority stake in the club to a Saudi Investment Fund.

The weeks since have resulted in a whole host of high-profile names from across the continent, in turn, being tipped to make the move to St. James’ Park either in January, or upon the opening of the summer transfer window.
And one such player to have seen links between he and Newcastle mount over the last 48 hours has been the aforementioned Dembele.
With the one-time Borussia Dortmund standout’s contract at Barcelona due to expire next summer, it has been reported in his home country of France that Dembele has already opened negotiations with the incoming Magpies brass.
The 24-year-old is understood to have laid down demands of around €15 million-per-season, plus a €15 million signing fee:

Punishment incoming?
And, on Thursday, a fresh insight into the situation has been provided, from the perspective of Dembele’s current employers.
As per a report from Spanish outlet Sport, the coming weeks are expected to prove key when it comes to talks between the gifted attacker and the hierarchy at Barcelona.
Even more significantly, it is then suggested that, with Dembele having evidently had his head turned by the prospect of a fresh start (and even more money) in the Premier League, he could soon be ‘punished’ by the Blaugrana.
This comes with Ronald Koeman and co. ‘determined’ to leave their contract rebel winger in the stands for the remainder of the campaign, if he refuses to put pen to paper on fresh terms.
It is also added, though, that under the right conditions, a January sale could be found.
