An update on Chelsea’s reported move for Saul Niguez has emerged online with the UK transfer deadline having passed without an announcement from either club at the time of writing.
Chelsea linked with Niguez switch
Chelsea would see themselves linked with the Spanish international last week.
The Telegraph then reported on Monday that Atletico Madrid were having second thoughts over whether or not they will allow Saul to leave on loan:
Chelsea see bids to sign Kounde and Saul stall after both Spanish clubs move the goalposts on deals. Things can change quickly at the end of transfer windows, though, so I wouldn’t fully rule anything out until Tues 11pm…#cfc https://t.co/T7ZKonuj5N

However, reports earlier this evening suggested that a deal was still on:
🚨 EXCL: Chelsea actively working on deal to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez. Negotiations are for a loan with option to buy. 26yo Spain international contracted at #Atleti until 2026 but optimism all round that he now joins #CFC @TheAthleticUK https://t.co/GXDcW4c5xD

Chelsea-Saul latest
Niguez has been on Atletico’s books since he joined from Real Madrid’s youth ranks.
In that time he has notched 340 appearances for the Spanish outfit, scoring 43 goals and assisting 20.
The 26-year-old would likely add some serious quality to Chelsea’s midfield, which has had some issues over the last few years due to N’Golo Kante’s continuing injury woes.
However, with the UK transfer deadline having passed, an official announcement is yet to be forthcoming from Chelsea or Atletico.
But, Chelsea fans should not be too worried right now. As per Sky’s Kaveh Solhekol, Saul Niguez’s deal to Chelsea from Atletico Madrid is all but done, and it is now a race against time to file all the paperwork.
However, Solhekol adds that it should be fine because they will have an extra hour after the deadline to finalise everything:
Saul Niguez deal to Chelsea from Atletico Madrid is all but done. Race against time now to file all the paperwork but should be fine because they will have extra hour after deadline as well. Atletico need to sort out Griezmann paperwork too
