Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini has, on Saturday, provided an update on the future of Tottenham-linked defender Cristian Romero.
Serie A standout
Recent weeks have of course seen links between Spurs and Argentinian stopper Romero ramp up in a major way.
This comes with new Lilywhites boss Nuno Espirito Santo – on the back of Toby Alderweireld’s surprise departure – on the lookout for reinforcements at the heart of his backline.
To this point, the likes of Jules Kounde, Kurt Zouma and Nikola Milenkovic have all been tipped as potential arrivals in North London.
Romero, though, is understood to remain the firm ‘priority’ of Daniel Levy and co., with the ex-Juventus man fresh off the back of something of a breakout season in Serie A, backed up by Copa America glory with his country.
Tottenham still in negotiation for Cristian Romero but no agreement yet on €55m fee – he’s the priority. 100%. ⚪️ #THFC
Plan B: open talks to sign 3 different defenders with same amount. Tomiyasu [€18m], Milenkovic [€15m] and Zouma [€25m].
Caleta-Car, NOT even an option.

‘Player decision important…’
Reports doing the rounds in the European media on Saturday, meanwhile, have pointed towards an agreement between Tottenham and Atalanta being struck, for a hefty fee of 50 million Euro, plus bonuses.
In turn, it came as little surprise when Gian Piero Gasperini was this evening drawn on the latest on his star stopper’s situation.
And, after confirming that he expects Romero to return to training next Monday, the Atalanta boss went on to suggest that the will of the Argentine himself is set to prove crucial to the transfer potentially coming to fruition:
Atalanta manager Gasperini about Tottenham deal: “Romero will be with us on Monday and I think player decision will be important to understand his future. Then we’ve to see how negotiations between clubs will develop”. ⚪️ #THFC
…and Cristian Romero wants to join Tottenham.
