Benitez explains comments
Rafa Benítez was unveiled as Everton’s new head coach ahead of the upcoming season.
Everton were diligent in their announcement of Rafa Benitez and very well aware of the fact that he has an association with their biggest rivals Liverpool.
A video released on their YouTube channel showed the Spaniard being asked about previous comments made and Benitez explained well the context of the time and place in which those words were uttered.
“I have been in Madrid, Naples, Valencia, Tenerife, Extremadura and Liverpool. Every single club I was there, I was fighting for them. If you analyse things in the context, what you are expecting from your manager is to fight for your club, and I will do that,” he said.
“I am here, I will fight for my club, I will try to win every single game, and it doesn’t matter who the opponents are, or the rivals. It is something you have to do, it is your nature, that you have to try to do your best.”
“That’s why a lot of fans in a lot of these cities love me is because I was giving everything for them. If you analyse this in the context, then it is very clear I will do the same for Everton.”

His key responsibilities
The tough job that Benitez will need to attend will begin almost immediately with the future’s of some key players still to be resolved.
Both Richarlison and James Rodriguez will need to speak with the new coach about where their futures will lie and how he will convince them that Everton is still the right place for them to continue
There has also been rumours about a possible departure of Dominic Calvert-Lewin with Arsenal said to be heavily interested.

Benitez will also need to strengthen. Carlo Ancelotti received plenty of praise for bringing in the likes of Allan, Abdoulaye Doucoure, Rodriguez and Ben Godfrey and more astute business will be needed should Everton want to push for a European spot.
The pressure is on from day 1 to convince the doubters he is the right man for the job.
