Germany’s 5 penalty takers vs England
If, or should that be when, England versus Germany ends up in a penalty shootout at Wembley, who will step up for the Germans?
On Tuesday, hours before the 5pm kick-off in the English capital, German daily Bild have revealed who Germany’s 5 penalty takers will be.
According to Bild, Germany’s first five spot-kicks will be taken by:

Going through the career statistics of each of these players, Kroos has scored 5 out of 5 penalties, while Thomas Müller has 30 career penalties, missing 7.

Who will take Germany’s penalties after that?
In the event an England vs Germany penalty shootout goes even further, Bild have also listed the next three players ready to step up. They are:
– Ilkay Gundogan (Manchester City)
– Marcel Halstenberg (RB Leipzig)
– Matthias Ginter (Borussia Mönchengladbach)
Bild also have a dig at England & penalties.
Will this comment come back to bit Bild in the backside?
In their article revealing the German penalty takers, Bild told their audience:
We’ve been practicing penalties since Saturday, the English since September.
England’s top 10 penalty-takers
England also boast a pretty dire record against top nations in the knockout rounds of tournaments.
At the Euros and World Cup, for example, the last big side whom the Three Lions downed in the knockout rounds was Spain all the way back in 1996 – and even that was not a great La Roja outfit.
Another issue England face is that they are historically terrible when it comes to penalty shootouts, a key part of knockout football.
Yes, they did finally win a shootout at the World Cup in 2018. But that has not wiped out years of previous shortcomings.
England have lost twice to Germany in shootouts in the past. Once at the 1990 World Cup (vs West Germany), and then at Euro 96 in the semi-finals.
In turn, as mentioned above, 101 have taken a look at who England’s best penalty takers are at present.
And, in all honesty, there are not too many options to choose from. Only Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford take spot-kicks with any sort of regularity. See the full list below.
