Goals from Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane ensured that England will be playing again on Saturday in Rome, while the Germans will be heading home prematurely.
Who they will play
Their opposition was still to be decided, with Ukraine and Sweden battling it out in the evening fixture of the day.
And the Three Lions were made to wait a little longer as the fixture wound into extra time, with several serious-looking injuries preventing the game from picking up any real rhythm.

A red card for Sweden’s Danielson changed the course of extra-time, however, and in its dying embers Artem Dovbyk headed home from six yards out to give Ukraine an unlikely, and historic victory.

Sweden had hit the post twice in normal time, but in truth looked tired and uninventive. Certainly, they were no better than Ukraine, and a draw would probably have been a fair result if one wasn’t needed to leave the competition.
Sweden go out and must feel very unlucky. Thought they were decent. Forsberg twice hit woodwork.
As for Ukraine, wasn’t overly impressed. Shouldn’t pose England many problems. Few nice players, though, Yarmolenko, Zinchenko, Yaremchuk and Malinovskiy.
Famous last words…

However, this means that England will now be overwhelming favorites as they head into their tie against the Eastern Europeans in Rome on Saturday, with nothing less than a resounding win expected from the Three Lions.
