Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has provided an explanation for his decision to leave Mason Greenwood out of his starting line-up to face AS Roma.
Giallorossi showdown
The Red Devils are of course set to return to action shortly.
Solskjaer and co. will welcome Serie A outfit Roma to Old Trafford, for the first-leg of the Europa League semi-final showdown between the clubs.
United have bested Italian opposition already in this season’s competition, in dispatching of AC Milan by two goals to one in the last-16.
And tonight’s hosts will no doubt be confident of a similar outcome this time around, as they aim to bring an end to Solskjaer’s semi-final hoodoo.
‘Deserves to play’
In turn, ahead of the action getting underway at the Theatre of Dreams, the hosts’ XI set to take on Roma was unveiled a short time ago.
United have opted for a strong base of Scott McTominay, Fred, Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes in midfield, with David de Gea also given the nod over Dean Henderson between the posts.
Perhaps the most surprising decision on the part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, though, comes in attack.
Despite a fine recent spell of form, Mason Greenwood has been dropped to the bench, with Marcus Rashford and Edinson Cavani instead leading the line:

In turn, speaking during a pre-match interview, Solskjaer was inevitably drawn on Greenwood being shifted to the bench.
And the Reds boss went on to explain:
‘If you look at individuals Mason deserves to play, but we felt the second half against Tottenham was a strong performance, we want to see something of the same.’
