PSG vs RB Leipzig
PSG faced off with RB Leipzig on Tuesday evening in a Champions League clash.
The Ligue 1 powerhouse were looking to continue their unbeaten start to their European campaign after picking up a win over Manchester City and a draw with Club Brugge.
Leipzig, meanwhile, were looking for their first win of Group A and knew that a loss and probably even a draw would kill off any chance they had of making it to the Champions League knockout rounds this seaosn.
And, on Tuesday, Kylian Mbappe would put PSG 1-0 up after just nine minutes. It was not all plain sailing for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, however, as goals from Andre Silva and Nordi Mukiele gave the German side a 2-1 lead after one hour of the match.
Lionel Messi’s Panenka penalty
However, though PSG were without the services of Neymar on Tuesday, they could still count on Lionel Messi to come to the rescue.
Messi would open his account for the day after 67 minutes to draw PSG level.
Then, seven minutes later, PSG were awarded a penalty after a push on Kylian Mbappe.
Despite Mbappe being fouled, it would be Lionel Messi who stepped up to take the spot-kick.
And, though the penalty came late in the game and could have been PSG’s last big chance to win the game, Messi was as cold as ice when stepping up.
The Argentine opted to take a ‘Panenka’ penalty, chipping calmly down the middle whilst the Leipzig keeper dove out the way.
An exquisite bit of skill from Messi, which can be seen below:
