Liverpool known for savvy business
Liverpool are one of several clubs with a reputation for savvy business, with deals for Andy Robertson, Fabinho and Georginio Wijnaldum chief among the reasons as to why. They are known to have baulked at transfer fees that they deemed too large, with a certain German forward now plying his trade at Chelsea despite seemingly being set to sign for the Merseyside outfit.
As such, should players that could improve the squad become available to agree pre-contracts with in January, it is almost certain that Jurgen Klopp’s side would jump at the chance.
101 take a look at three players who could well fit the bill.
1. Franck Kessie
First up is one man that has already been linked with a move to Merseyside next summer, in the form of AC Milan’s Franck Kessie. The Ivorian midfielder is valued at 49.5 million pounds by Transfermarkt, but that does not do his abilities justice.
A willing runner, Kessie excels in winning the ball back and turning defence into attack, although his work further forward could be improved. Of his 14 goals last season, 12 were from the penalty spot, showing that he could perhaps work on his goalscoring from open play.
Still just 24 years old, Kessie is thought to have rejected a new deal in Milan, but Liverpool are more than capable of stepping in and offering the 8 million euros salary that he is after. In turn, Kessie could become a key addition to the Red’s workman-like midfield.

While Liverpool are unlikely to be the most attractive option financially come January, should they be able to land Kessie, it would be a very shrewd move.
2. Ousmane Dembele
Something of a wildcard is Barcelona man Ousmane Dembele. Injury has decimated the Frenchman’s career in Spain, and he is due to be out of contract this summer. Still just 24, he would be a fun addition to the Liverpool frontline.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is said to be ‘in love’ with Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele, who continues to be linked with a move to Anfield.

There are two main reasons that this signing could prove a masterstroke. For one, he solves the major issue in Liverpool’s frontline, which is the drop-off in quality between the first XI and the rest. Of course, Mohamed Salah is largely in a class of his own, but to find more capable cover than Divock Origi for the Egyptian should not be too difficult, with Dembele able to cover both flanks.
Secondly, it would be easier to manage his fitness, with Dembele not needed to play every game. He could rotate with Jota, Salah and Mane in the wide berths, which could see the best brought out of him without the injuries that seem to dog him at Barcelona.
A 24-year-old on a free is usually a no-brainer, but in Dembele’s case, it should be one that the club look to get done as soon as the transfer window opens.
3. Boubacar Kamara
Last on this list is Boubacar Kamara. Looking for a player that can rotate with Fabinho at the base of the midfield, Liverpool may find their man in the 21 year old Marseilles man. The youngster turned down the chance to sign a new contract earlier in the summer, paving the way to depart on a free in 2022.

• Corentin Tolisso.
• Marcelo Brozović.
• Paul Pogba.
• Ivan Perisić.
• Fabio Viera.

Of course, Kamara would not be on the same level as Fabinho, at least immediately, but at 21 would have plenty of term to hone his craft in the shadow of the Brazilian. He would also help the Merseyside outfit regenerate their side, with an ageing midfield just one problem area.
Fixing that area without paying a transfer fee could prove to be a masterstroke.
