Bayern Munich hammer Barcelona
Barcelona played out their first Champions League tie of the post-Lionel Messi era on Tuesday and it did not get off to a great start.
Barca would be drawn in Group E of the Champions League groups for 2021/22 alongside Bayern Munich, Benfica and Dynamo Kyiv.
And on Tuesday, La Blaugrana would be forced to take on the former of that trio.
Last time Barca and Bayern faced off the Germans would smash Barcelona 8-2 in a quarter-final tie.
And whilst this evening’s result was not as bad, it was still pretty underwhelming for Barcelona.
The La Liga side’s attack was made up of Luuk de Jong and Memphis Depay, a far cry from the previous combinations of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar.
Ronald Koeman also lined his side up with a back-five and spent much of the tie on the back foot.
Despite this, Bayern were still able to put three pas their Spanish opponents, including a brace from Robert Lewandowski, who just seems to get better with age:

Barcelona set unwanted record
On the back of Tuesday’s loss, two rather unwanted stats have emerged concerning Barcelona.
Firstly, as per Opta, Barcelona have failed to register a shot on target in a Champions League match for the first time since at least the 2003/04 season (which was when Opta started collecting data):

Opta would also reveal that, following the defeat to Bayern Munich, Barcelona have lost three consecutive home games in European competitions for the first time in their history:
