EFF Daily: Germany injury news, pick Spain player, captain Robin Gosens

EFF Daily: June 23rd updates

Wednesday, June 23rd, will see the final set of Euro 2020 group games played out.

There will be four separate matches taking place, with Group E’s games kicking off at 5 PM UK time and then Group F coming to a close at 8 PM.

Group E’s final games will see Sweden and Poland go head-to-head, with the latter set to top the group should they win.

Spain are also taking on Slovakia in a game they must win to qualify for the round of 16. La Roja are currently without a win at Euro 2020 having drawn their opening two games. They will definitely secure at least second place with a win this time around though.

Elsewhere, Portugal will take on France whilst Germany and Hungary go head-to-head. Germany have a great chance to top their group if they win on Wednesday.

Portugal, meanwhile, are in danger of not making it out of their group. If they were to lose to France and Germany beat Hungary, which seems likely, then Portugal would finish with just three points – a total unlikely to be enough to earn them a spot in the last 16.

Injury news

Sweden: Sweden have no injury concerns ahead of facing Poland.

Poland: Jakub Moder looks set to be a doubt for Poland’s final group tie after picking up a knee injury vs Spain:

Slovakia: Denis Vavro is isolating after testing positive for Covid-19 last week and is a doubt for the Spain game.

Spain: Spain have not reported injury concerns ahead of their final Group E outing.

Portugal: Portugal currently do not have any injury problems ahead of facing France.

France: Ousmane Dembele has left France’s Euro 2020 squad after picking up a knee problem vs Hungary:

Germany: Mats Hummels, Thomas Muller, Ilkay Gundogan and Lukas Klostermann all missed training on Monday and are doubts to face Hungary. As a result, it may be worth avoiding said players in your EFF side.

Hungary: Hungary have not reported any fresh injury issues ahead of taking on Germany.

Top 3 players to pick: Robin Gosens, Pau Torres, Victor Lindelof

Robin Gosens, Germany (5.2m)

Germany, on paper, should be able to cause Hungary all sorts of problems this week.

Joachim Low’s side would dominate Portugal last time out, with Robin Gosens a key figure in their 4-2 win.

The left-wing-back was a nightmare to pick up for the opposition defenders, and would earn two assists and one goal vs Portugal.

Whilst a similar return does look unlikely for the second game in a row, a clean sheet and at least one attacking return looks a real possibility for Gosens vs Hungary.

Pau Torres, Spain (4.5m)

One of Spain’s more consistent performers this tournament has been Pau Torres.

The centre-back, at 4.5m, represents a really solid budget option at the moment.

And there should be a very good chance that Spain can keep a fairly weak Slovakia attack quite this week as well.

Victor Lindelof, Sweden (5.6m)

Our final pick ofthe day is yet another defensive option.

But Sweden have been very solid at the back so far at Euro 2020 and are yet to concede a single goal.

And as they only need a draw to secure a top-two finish in their group, another fairly reserved, defense-minded outing is likely against Poland this time around.

As a result, Victor Lindelof, who has already secured 12 points from two games, is well in with a shot of securing another clean sheet on Wednesday.

Captain of the day: Robin Gosens, Germany

With France and Portugal facing one another and Spain’s attack fairly poor, there are not a lot of standout captain options to chose from today.

Your best option is likely to come from Germany. And, as already discussed, Robin Gosens should be a decent option as he has a great chance of securing both an attacking and defensive return vs Hungary.
